7 JULY 2023
The Year of 1967 held their four-monthly luncheon as usual at Club York in Sydney's CBD on Friday 7th July 2023. It was great to see members from far and wide - a few flew in from Queensland (Peter Hacon, Jim Burns), while others came from the ACT (Pete Coggins, Hugh Poate), and country NSW was well represented (including Brian Bowman, Gordon Evans, Dave Henley) and many from Sydney. A most enjoyable afternoon was experienced by the eighteen who attended. There were thirty-two apologies, including Richard Kirkby, who was unable to attend for the first time in about six years - an exceptional record! So, about 50% of the year are in regular contact though our network and website. A list of acceptances and apologies is listed below. We welcomed the return of Geoff Young and Charles Avery who we haven't seen for some time due to medical issues. Peter Hacon and Brian Bowman spoke about how national service and serving with the Australian Defence Force in the Vietnam war has impacted their lives. They are in regular contact with Andy Bligh and Richard Gordon (who are also Vietnam veterans). The four Vietnam Vets with wives, and other local Old Boys attended the Toowoomba ANZAC Day memorial service last April. It was also good to hear from Hugh Poate, who's recently published book "Failures of Command" has just been short listed for the 2022 ACT Government book of the year. Our next gathering for lunch is scheduled for 17 November 2023. Acknowledgements: Photography: Charles Avery, David Simmons Website: Charles Jennings |
